GETTING AN ACCURATE HIP MEASUREMENT

Know the difference between your waist and hips. Your natural waist is the smallest part of your torso, where your body dips in. Your hips are below that, and they are usually wider than your waist. Your hip measurement includes your butt and your hips.

Place your feet together. Having your feet apart can create a measurement that’s actually larger than your hip area.

Find the widest point. Your hip measurements should be taken at where your hips are the widest. .

  • Once you have your tape measure in place, you may need to move up or down an inch or two to find the widest spot.

Hold a cloth tape measure on one hip. Hold one end on one hip. It doesn’t matter which side you start with. You can also pull it more towards your middle if that’s easier for you. Just make sure you hold on to that end as you bring the other end around.

Read the measurement. You can look down to find out your measurement. You measurement is where the end of the tape meets a number as the tape measure comes around. You may need to look in the mirror to read the number more easily.

How to Measure Your Waist

Remove or raise clothing. Remove your shirt or raise to just below your chest. To get an accurate measurement, you need to ensure that the tape measure is resting against your bare stomach, so you should remove any layers of clothing blocking your waist.

Find your waist. Use your fingers to find the top of your hips and the base of your rib cage. Your waist is the soft, fleshy section between these two bony parts. It will also be the narrowest part of your torso.

Take your measurement. Stand up straight and exhale slowly. Hold the end of the tape measure at your navel and bring it around your waist to the front. The measuring tape should be parallel to the floor and fit snugly around your torso without digging into your skin.

Read the tape. Look at the place on the tape where the zero end meets the other end of the tape measure. The location of this meeting point is your waist measurement.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR INSEAM

Place a book between their legs and slide it up the wall to meet the crotch firmly as if they are sat on a saddle. Make sure your child still has their heels on the ground, then mark with a pencil where the top of the book the touches the wall. Measure the distance from that mark straight down to the floor.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR CHEST

To measure your chest size, run a fabric tape measure under your arms and fit it around the fullest part of your chest. It’s important to have the tape measure parallel to the ground, not dipping, sagging or twisted which distorts the measurement and impacts the fit of the tshirt.
